Are you excited about lacrosse, want to get involved, but don't know how to get started? There are lots of things that you can do to help out. The two areas that the OHSLA most needs help is in finding more coaches and more referees. Did you play college or high school lacrosse? Have you coached at the youth level? If so there are many teams that need coaching help, both full and part time. If you don't feel that you are quite up to coaching at the high school level, you can get involved at the junior level, helping to get many young players prepared for competition in the OHSLA. If this sounds interesting to you, contact the league and we can help get you started. We can direct you to the team closest to you that can use your services. Ever thought about becoming a ref? It's a great way to get involved, earn some extra money, plus get some great exercise. You don't need a background in officiating or in lacrosse to become a lacrosse ref. OLOA (Oregon Lacrosse Officials Association) will train you and help get you on your way. Many of the officials that officiate during our OHSLA games also ref at the college level. Officiating can turn into a great hobby, and you will be doing a great service to Oregon lacrosse. If you would like to get involved in officiating, contact OLOA for more information. Other ways to help out...... Since lacrosse is not yet an OSAA sport, most teams are not managed by their school. Many are run by a parent Board of Directors, or by the Head Coach. Most teams would love to have extra volunteer help. There might be an available spot on the Board. Most teams would love to have help with lining the fields. Many need help with fundraising. There is always room for an extra scorekeeper or statistician. Talk to the parents in the stands and GET INVOLVED. |
