OHSLA Final Four to be held at West Linn High School

West Linn High School has been chosen as the location for the 2008 OHSLA Final Four. Semi-Finals will be held on May 28, and the Championship game will be held on May 31.

West Linn is a great venue, with a lot of covered seating (a must for this time of year), a great turf field, and good available parking. The field also has lights, so we can continue the recent tradition of night games for the Championship Series. The field is fairly intimate, and with the crowds that are expected, it will be another great couple of evenings of high school lacrosse.

Game times will be announced at a later date, along with the playoff bracket.

Hope to see you there!!

April 10, 2007....Changes in Summer Lacrosse/Team Oregon

There will be no OHSLA sponsored Team Oregon in 2008. What with competing against Rhino and Starz for players, it was determined that the player pool was becoming too depleated to really showcase the talent of Oregons finest lacrosse players. Three different programs just thinned out the talent level so that no Oregon team would show well at summer tournaments. Furthuring these efforts, the following news release introduces the joining of Rhino and Starz in an effort to further reduce the diluting of talent for Oregons Summer Elite teams.

Rhino Lacrosse and Oregon Starz have formed a partnership that will result in Select Teams comprised of the best lacrosse talent in the state of Oregon. Oregon Starz Select Teams will become part of Rhino Lacrosse, a company that has been providing lacrosse clinics, leagues, select teams and events in the greater Portland area for the last two and a half years. Coaches from both programs will join together, creating an elite level coaching staff to train youth and high school players. Starz Lacrosse was founded in 2004 and currently runs clubs in Seattle, Tacoma, Northern and Southern California, Las Vegas, Arizona and Austin. Starz President Scott Hochstadt explains the Oregon Starz partnership with Rhino, "The ability to keep the best players training and competing together is the goal of Starz Lacrosse teams. With everyone working together in Oregon, this could end up being one of the most talented clubs in the West.  Having coaches like Ryan Powell and Brian Silcott on the field and implementing their lacrosse systems with these kids is something that no other program in the country can match." "There is no question that the goals of Starz and Rhino are one in the same: to grow the  sport of lacrosse in Oregon, and to make sure that all of our players have the opportunity to play at the next level, whether that is a freshman making their varsity high school team, or a graduated senior earning a spot on a top college team," says Rick Sheinin, former director of Oregon Starz, who will continue to be involved in the program. His feelings are echoed by Rhino President Brian Silcott, “The quality of the teams we will be able to field is only half of the story here.  By combining our strengths on and off the field, we are now able to offer everyone's expertise to all of the athletes in this program, and the big winner will be the kids playing lacrosse.” Rhino Lacrosse is ready to start preparing for Summer Select Tournaments and looks forward to displaying Oregon's best lacrosse players in both in-state and out-of-state events. The unification of the programs has the future looking good for Oregon lacrosse. Rhino CEO Ryan Powell can't help but agree, “This summer is going to ROCK at Rhino Lacrosse!”

December 12, 2007... Mark Flood Selected to Coach at US Lacrosse National High School Senior Showcase

West Linn coach Mark Flood has been selected to represent Oregon as a coach for the 2008 US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase. This year's site has not yet been determined.

While Oregon has sent players to the Showcase for the last couple of years, this is the first time that an Oregon coach has been selected to participate at this event. This is the second honor that US Lacrosse has given Oregon this month, what with the selection of Kris Van Hatcher as US Lacrosse Man of the Year (see below).

When Mark was offered the coaching slot, he was "honored to represent Oregon" and rearranged his summer camp schedule in order to participate.

The OHSLA is proud to have coaches of Mark's caliber in it's ranks, and it is pleased that our coaches are getting recognition at the national level. Congratulations Mark!

December 4, 2007...Kris Van Hatcher Voted US Lacrosse Man of the Year

Former OES Head Coach and current OHSLA Board Member, Kris Van Hatcher, has been elected US Lacrosse Man of the Year for Secondary Schools.

Kris was voted OHSLA Man of the Year at the end of the 2007 season by his coaching peers. This put him in contention for the national honor. Kris' resume, containing his credentials and mentioning all of his contributions to lacrosse in Oregon, was submitted to US Lacrosse last August. The names and resumes of the other national nominees were compiled and sent out to all of the Secondary School (High School) Area Chairmen by US Lacrosse. After a nationwide vote, Kris Van Hatcher won the vote "hands down", according to National Secondary School Director, Tom Hall.

This is a HUGE honor for Oregon Lacrosse. With the hard work of many, particularly US Lacrosse Oregon Chapter President, Terry Vance, Oregon is beginning to receive some long deserved cudos nationally.

We congratulate Kris on getting recognition on a national level. He definitely deserves it.
